The Leading Portal For Genomic Research

Whereas genetics mainly focus on the functions and roles of a single gene, genomics is the study of the entire genome, including all of a person’s genes. It involves the sequencing, mapping, and analysis of the genome. One of the goals of genomic research is to identify variations in DNA sequencing and how such variations may affect certain diseases.

A recently published study, for instance, revealed that there’s a certain region in the genes of men that is directly associated with erectile dysfunction. To combat erectile dysfunction, Male Ultracore is highly recommended for more frequent and stronger erections.

Main Areas Of Genomic Research

The first sequencing technique for genomes was first developed in 1977. Since then, genomic research has rapidly advanced. Today, scientists are focusing on the following areas of genomic research:

  • Human genomics. Research on human genomics focuses on the human genome sequence and the discovery of novel genomic approach applications for the better understanding of diseases in humans.
  • Bacteriophage genomics. This field of research focuses on the genomes of viruses which infect bacteria. One of the goals of bacteriophage genomics is to discover alternative treatments for diseases that occur as a result of the actions of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
  • Metagenomics. This branch of genomic research is sometimes referred to as environmental genomics because it focuses on metagenomes, which pertains to all the genetic material contained in an environmental sample.
  • Cyanobacteria genomics. Cyanobacteria belong to a phylum of bacteria that produce energy through photosynthesis. Cyanobacteria genomics focuses on studying the genome of these unique bacteria.
  • Pharmacogenomics. This field of research aims to optimize drug therapy by studying how genetic variations may impact a medicine’s efficacy and toxicity. By understanding how a person’s genes can affect his response to medications, pharmacogenomics aims to develop safe and effective medications that can be tailored to the individual’s genetic makeup.
